$14,000 A Day Saved By Avoiding Lost Production
A limestone producer in Illinois was using steel perforated plate with 4" skidbars to process 350 tons of material per hour. Stone and clay would constantly plug the openings.
Durex-Camline recommended a 3" thick Dur-X-VulcanŽ rubber screen with a 3/16" thick plate backing and 1" rubber skidbars. The tapered rubber screen opening design eliminated the plugging problems, increased hourly production by 10% and eliminated the plugging problems, increased hourly production by 10% and eliminated a 4-to-5 day shutdown each year. After one year, the screens show little sign of wear.
Based on the elimination of changeout alone, the company claims to have saved a minimum of $63,000 in the first year.

Screening Coal Without Clogging

A coal producer in West Virginia was in danger of overloading his crusher. The top deck of his double-deck screen was plugging with irregular-shaped chunks of coal wedged in the openings of the injection-molded urethane panels. As a result of the plugging, fine material would run over the screen and overwork the crusher. The crusher had to be shut down one or two times weekly to chip out the build-up of the fine material. This maintenance caused at least three hours of lost production time each week.
Durex-Camline recommended Dur-X-KleenŽ self-cleaning rubber modular replacement panels, measuring 12" wide by 24" long with 1-3/4" square openings. The rubber in these panels is flexible, so it won't plug with near-sized material. To further deter plugging, the openings are tapered.
Today, the operator reports that the screen stays clean without any material plugging. He claims that it wears just as well as the hard urethane in this application, but without the severe maintenance requirements and the threat of a broken crusher due to carryover of material on plugged screens.
